Guides / Proposals
Build the take-off
One sheet per room, your own blocks and rows, and a total that moves as you type. This is where the firm price comes from instead of an evening with a spreadsheet.
What you need first
- Your detailed catalogue imported on the Pricing tab in Settings
- A project with drawings done and a design fee settled
The take-off is your own workbook, on screen, with the arithmetic done for you. By the end of this page you will have a room on the sheet, a block priced, and a project total with your uplift, your tax and your payment schedule under it.
Open the project, then Documents, then Build the take-off
The Proposal card reads "Room by room, priced from your own rates." The button under it opens the sheet. Nothing is drafted yet.
Click Add a room and name it the way the client says it
The field says so: "Room name, as the client would say it." Kitchen, pantry, lockers, gun room. Each room is its own tab on the left, carrying its own total, and each one is a fresh copy of your sheet.

- 1Every figure in the Summary moves as you type
- 2Add a room, one tab per room on the job
- 3Save, then Draft the proposal
Choose the items the room holds
Pick from the list headed Choose an item. Each pick drops a block onto the sheet carrying the rows your workbook gave it. The categories, the blocks and the parts are all yours, imported from your own file, which is why nothing here is a form builder: adding a new kind of item is an import, not a setting.
Read the four columns
Inside a block the columns are Part, Rate, Opt and Total, exactly as they are in the workbook. Under the catalogue's rows sit a labour row and then Add a row, and at the foot a Quantity for the whole block and its SubTotal.

- 1Part, Rate, Opt and Total, the workbook's own columns
- 2Add a row, for what the catalogue does not have
- 3Quantity, which scales the whole block
The workspace these pictures were taken in carries a single placeholder item in its catalogue, so the row is named for the placeholder and the figures are small. On your sheet both are your own.
Watch the Summary panel above the rooms
Each room, then Sub Total, then your uplift by its own name and percentage, then GST, then Total, then the payment schedule split the way your terms split it. Nothing there is typed and nothing is rounded by hand.
Click Save
The sheet lives on the project, not on the document, so you can come back to it and change one quantity without rebuilding six rooms. The line under the bar is worth reading: "Drafts use the last saved take-off. Save any recent changes first."
What happens next
The next four guides are the four things you do to a row: scale it with Opt, price it differently for this job, add one the catalogue never had, or skip the sheet and type the price you already have.
