Your first hour in Casework
The Set up your shop card is the whole of onboarding: six facts about your shop, in any order, and the card leaves when the sixth is in.
What you need first
- A Casework workspace and the address you signed up with
- Your logo file and your accent colour, if you have them
- Your rates, in a spreadsheet or in your head
By the end of this hour your shop has a brand, its own rates, its terms and a first estimate on a real client. Nothing here is a wizard and nothing locks you out of the rest of the product while it is unfinished.
Sign in and read the first card
You land on Projects. The first card on it is headed Set up your shop, with the line Six steps to your first estimate, all on your own rates and a counter on the right.
Every row is derived from what is actually stored. Nothing on it can be ticked by hand, and nothing was ticked on your behalf. A row closes when the thing behind it is in there.

- 1The counter. It counts rows that are genuinely done
- 2The first row that is not done is the emphasised one
- 3Continue opens that row on its own form
Press Continue, or pick a row
Continue opens the first unfinished row on the form that answers it, not on a summary page. Pressing a row does the same thing for that row.
The six are independent. A shop that imported its rates before it uploaded a logo can press either. There is no order you have to follow.
Work through the six
Each row has a guide of its own in this section.
- Brand puts your logo, your colour and your name on every client document. See Set your brand.
- Rates is the ballpark rungs and GST the estimate is priced from. See Enter your rates.
- Terms is what an estimate includes, leaves out and how long it holds. See Write your terms.
- Covering note is the note that carries the estimate link to the client. See Write the covering note.
- First project logs a client. See Log your first project.
- First estimate is the one that closes the card. See Send your first estimate.
Let the card go
The card draws only while a step is open. When the sixth closes it disappears, and it does not come back.
Two things worth knowing before you start. The estimate engine refuses to produce a figure until your own rates are in, and says which rate is missing rather than guessing one. And nothing reaches a client until you approve it: approving hands you the client's link to send yourself.
What happens next
Start with Set your brand, which is the first row on the card and the one every client document reads from.
