Guides / Care and aftercare

Draft the care manual

The page a client still has open in five years, built from this job's own finish, wood and hardware. One link, open for as long as the warranty runs.

What you need first

  • A specification with a finish, a wood and hardware on it
  • Your care manual terms on the Terms tab in Settings
  • An install date on the project

A client who scrubs a painted door with a magic eraser costs themselves a door. By the end of this page you will have a care manual drafted off this job's own materials, approved, and a link that stays open for five years.

Open the project, then Documents, then Draft the care manual

The card says where it comes from: "Built from this project's finish, wood and hardware, plus the shop's care sections. You read it here first." Two jobs with different doors get different manuals.

Read the three figures on the review

The install date, how many care sections were assembled for this job, and how many follow-up visits the schedule holds. If the spec is missing a material, the section for it is simply not there rather than filled with something generic.

  1. 1How many care sections this job's materials produced
  2. 2The follow-up visits printed on the client's page
  3. 3Approve & create link

Look at what the client gets

Their own page, on your letterhead, opening with a Never use box that is always held open, then day to day, the finish, hinges, spills and heat. Then what they have, which is the actual room and materials off this job.

  1. 1The room and the day it was installed
  2. 2The line that tells them to keep it
  3. 3Never use, open by default because it costs a door

Scroll to their aftercare schedule

The schedule prints with the next visit marked and a line saying you get in touch, so they do not have to remember any of it. Under it, a number to call before they fix anything themselves.

  1. 1Your aftercare schedule, from the install date
  2. 2The next visit, marked at the top
  3. 3Call before you fix it, with your own number

Send it at handover, and again whenever they ask

Copy the link into an email or a text on handover day. It is the one document they will come back to, and because the link is open for five years you never have to reissue it in year three.

What happens next

The care manual goes out at handover. The pre-install pack goes out before it, and that is the next guide.
